Yorktown's Awesome Breakfast Burrito Wins Cleveland magazine's "Best Of" award for 2012
Cleveland Magazine admits that they "rarely encourage our readers to spend their dining experiences at local gas stations, but Yorktown Service plaza is the exception."
In fact, the home-made food at Yorktown is so good, it won the magazine's 2012 "Best Of" for Best Burrito sandwich.
The Plaza, which opened in 1972 as a small service station, added a kitchen in 2004, according to Yorktown Vice President Matt Shull. Since then, they have been adding to their menu of fresh subs and salads.
Their breakfast sandwiches debuted several years ago when the Plaza was looking to diversify, says Matt. "We brought a little bit of home cooking into it instead of just the fast-food concept that you see at other places." The result is large, made-to-order breakfast sandwiches that give diners an enormous choice of options.
The winning Breakfast Burrito is a full-sized tortilla stuffed with eggs, green peppers, onions, tomato, salsa, and sour cream, with a choice of meats and cheeses, all made up right in front of you.
The Plaza also offers breakfast sandwiches which can be customized in dozens of ways. First, there's the Breads:
Bagel
Everything Bagel
Croissant
English Muffin
Pretzel Roll
Texas Toast
Wheat or Tomato-Basil Wrap
Rye Bread
Pancake
Then, the meats, cheeses, and egg options:
Meat
Bacon Sausauge Turkey Ham Gyro Chicken Salami Bologna Pepperoni Steak |
Egg
Fried Egg Egg White Scrambled |
Cheese
American Provolone Swiss Nacho Pepper Jack Cream Cheese |
Everything's value-priced, too, says Matt. "We try and offer good food at a fair price."
It's a strategy that seems to be resonating home with customers. "Once people come in, taste the food, and see what they can get for their money, it's a win."
